A Bloomington man who handed his marijuana to a trooper was unhappy when it resulted in a charge. He allegedly insulted the trooper and cursed on the way to jail.

Anthony John Ferentinos, 18, Bloomington, was arrested by Indiana State Police Master Trooper John Yung on Monday, March 22, during a traffic stop on I-69 in Greene County.

Ferentinos was a passenger in a silver 2014 Kia Optima that was northbound when Trooper Yung initiated a traffic stop after he tracked the vehicle going 86 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The female driver got a warning for speeding but during the stop, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana. After issuing the ticket, Trooper Yung walked over to the passenger side and asked for passenger’s identification. He also asked where the marijuana was. Ferentinos allegedly said he wasn’t going to lie and he handed a partially burnt cigar to the trooper. It appeared to contain marijuana.

Trooper Yung then prepared summonses for both the driver and Ferentinos to appear in court at a later date on a charge of possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor. He then asked the driver, then the passenger, to sit inside the patrol vehicle while he explained the summons.

The driver questioned the summons for such a small amount of marijuana but promised to appear in court.

When Ferentinos was in the patrol vehicle, he allegedly said Trooper Yung was “extra as ----.” Trooper Yung reported that he asked Ferentinos to repeat what he’d just said because he didn’t understand it. Ferentinos repeated it and then Trooper Yung got out of the patrol vehicle. He told Ferentinos to exit and put his hands behind his back because he was under arrest for possession of marijuana. Trooper Yung reported that during transport to the Greene County Jail, Ferentinos continued to use curse words.

Bond for Ferentinos was set at $500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. The driver had followed the patrol vehicle to the jail and later Ferentinos posted $50 and was released. Ferentinos is scheduled to appear in court for his initial hearing next Monday.
