A Bloomfield woman stopped for going 54 in a 40 was arrested after the officer suspected she was intoxicated. He reported test results showed she had a blood-alcohol concentration of .19.

When Tammy Renae Hestand, 49, Bloomfield, appeared in Greene Superior Court yesterday, Monday, September 17, for an initial hearing, she was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person – a Class A misdemeanor, operating a vehicle while intoxicated – a Class C misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more – a Class A misdemeanor.

Hestand was arrested by Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department last Wednesday evening, September 12.

Blazier was running stationary radar on South Washington Street at Furnace Road when he clocked a gray 2005 Buick SUV, southbound on Washington Street, going 52 in a 40 mph zone. He initiated a traffic stop for speeding.

During the stop, Blazier suspected the driver was intoxicated and said her balance was poor when she exited her vehicle.

Blazier reported Hestand failed all field sobriety tests and was transported to the sheriff’s department where she again failed standard field sobriety testing but agreed to take a chemical test. Blazier said test results showed she had a blood-alcohol concentration equivalent to .19. The legal limit is .08.

Hestand was booked in to jail where her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent allowed. She posted $400 cash, was released on Thursday and scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
