Bloomfield woman arrested on theft charges
A 27-year-old Bloomfield woman was scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court Wednesday for theft charges after she allegedly transferred over $1,200 from someone’s CashApp bank account into her account without permission.
Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Michael Stanley arrested Shelby Ann Miller Aug. 5 on a warrant for theft when the value of property is more than $750 but less than $50,000 and theft. The warrant was issued on Aug. 2.
According to a probable cause affidavit written by Jasonville Police Chief Ryan Van Horn, on July 26 he received a complaint of someone transferring more than $1,200 from a CashApp account without permission. The victim reported he gave permission for a male subject to use his phone to set up his new phone. During that time, the victim said the subject had access to his phone and subsequently his CashApp account.
On May 16, according to the probable cause affidavit, $1,201.64 was transferred from the victim’s CashApp account.
On July 31, Van Horn interviewed the male subject and Miller at the Jasonville Police Department. According to the probable cause, the male subject admitted he borrowed the victim’s phone to reactivate his own cell phone. He alleged he did not transfer money from the CashApp; however, he said Miller did. He alleged he and Miller had a conversation about taking the money while sitting in their vehicle in Jasonville.
During an interview with Miller, according to the probable cause affidavit, she initially denied transferring the money and blamed it on the male subject. Later, Miller admitted transferring the money from the victim’s CashApp account to her own CashApp account.
Upon her arrest, Miller was transported to Greene County Jail where her bond was set at $5,000 surety with 10% cash allowed.
