Bloomfield woman arrested on drug charges

A Bloomfield driver suspected of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and arrested early Sunday, is facing charges of OVWI plus meth possession.

April Lynn Boyd

April Lynn Boyd, 41, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Kelly Hutchens of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early Sunday, February 13.

Around 11:41 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, Deputy Hutchens was responding to a child custody situation when she spotted a car driven by one of the individuals involved in the custody situation.

Deputy Hutchens passed the car, a white Hyundai, on East Olive Branch Road. The deputy turned around and though she didn’t have the lights or siren on, the car pulled into the driveway of an uninvolved party and just sat there with the car running and the lights on. Deputy Hutchens pulled in beside the car.

Deputy Hutchens got out to talk to the driver, identified as April Boyd, then asked Boyd if she’d been drinking or doing any drugs. Boyd allegedly admitted she’d smoked marijuana earlier in the day and she was asked to get out of the car for field sobriety testing. She failed the tests on the scene and was transported to the sheriff’s department.

Boyd submitted to a blood draw which was obtained at Greene County General Hospital – results pending.

Boyd’s car was towed and the required inventory taken. GCSD Deputy Devan Goad and Deputy Anthony Nelson reported that during the inventory, they found a white cylinder container wedged in the middle of the back seat, containing a zip baggie with a white crystal substance inside that field-tested positive as methamphetamine. They also reported finding a pill identified as oxycodone hydrochloride, a controlled substance.

Boyd was booked into the Greene County Jail at 1:56 a.m. She was being held without bond pending court appearance.

Boyd was scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court earlier today and has been charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and

  • Operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body, a Class C misdemeanor.

As of late Tuesday, Boyd was still in custody.
