Billie Carrie Miller, 30, Bloomfield, and William R. Moody, 41, Terre Haute, were both arrested in Sullivan County on Friday night, December 31.

Both were taken into custody following the pursuit of a silver Cadillac that refused to stop for police. Moody was the driver. Miller was a passenger.

At 8:49 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Deputy Colt Thompson of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department saw the silver Cadillac headed south on US 41 in Sullivan County. Deputy Thompson said he observed the Cadillac swerving in and out of the normal driving lane, then tapping the brakes and reducing speed to 30 mph in a 60 mph zone.

Deputy Thompson attempted to stop the Cadillac but the driver sped up and refused to pull over. The Cadillac then turned south onto Old US 41 with Deputy Thompson in pursuit.

The pursuit continued through Carlisle, where the driver hit a curb and some pine trees before heading back onto US 41 where he was driving south in the northbound lane.

Other officers responded and when SCSD Deputy Cole Boatright and Officer Mitchell Eberhardt of the Sullivan Police Department joined the effort, the driver of the Cadillac stopped, quickly got out of the vehicle and ran off into the woods.

The pursuit continued with officers on foot through the woods. After the suspect ran through a thicket and crossed over a fence, he suddenly turned on the officers and started a physical altercation. The officers were able to subdue the suspect.

After Moody was identified, officers discovered he was wanted on several outstanding warrants, including one for failure to appear in court in a case involving auto theft, a Level 6 felony; one for failure to appear in a case involving battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor; and one for failure to appear in a case involving criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor. In addition, Moody was out on parole from the Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC) and was wanted for revocation of his parole.

As a result of this latest incident, Moody is facing new criminal charges in Sullivan County including battery on a law enforcement officer resulting in bodily injury, a Level 5 felony; battery on a law enforcement officer, a Level 6 felony; and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

Moody was booked into the Sullivan County Jail where his bond for the latest charges was set at $35,000 cash only but he was being held without bond for Indiana DOC.

Billie Carrie Miller of Bloomfield was not reported to have fled but she was also taken into custody. She also was wanted on an outstanding warrant, issued for failure to appear in court in another county in a case involving resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

Miller is now facing new charges in Sullivan County for possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor.
