With more than one criminal case pending against him, a Bloomfield man arrived at the Greene County Courthouse for a hearing. When his probation officer asked him to take a drug test before the hearing, the man walked out of the building and didn’t come back. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

Lloyd Robert Turpin, 48, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Michael Stanley of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department yesterday, Wednesday, November 18, on a warrant issued because he failed to appear at a hearing.

Turpin was convicted last December of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. A couple of other cases have been filed against him since then but in the meth case, he was sentenced to 545 days in the county jail. He was given credit for 31 days already served at that time and 461 days were suspended – he was then placed on probation.

In August, the Greene County Probation Department filed a motion to revoke the suspended sentence and an evidentiary hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, November 4.

On that Wednesday, when Turpin arrived at the Courthouse, his probation officer requested Turpin submit to a drug screen. Turpin then left the building before the hearing got started. He didn’t come back and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Turpin was booked into the Greene County Jail around 6 p.m. yesterday. His bond was set at $15,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of late today, Turpin has not yet posted bond and is still in jail.

The evidentiary hearing has been rescheduled for December 9.
