Bloomfield man booked into jail for allegedly holding knife to woman’s throat

One man was tazed then arrested when officers responded to a domestic situation at a residence on Cold Springs Road in Bloomfield on Monday afternoon. He allegedly had held a knife to a woman’s throat, had broken her phone so she couldn’t call police, then ran from officers when they arrived.

Aaron Alan Weber

Aaron Alan Weber, 25, of Bloomfield, was arrested Monday, August 19, by Bloomfield Town Marshal Ken Tharp.

Marshal Tharp was dispatched to a home located at 254 North Cold Springs Road in Bloomfield at approximately 2:47 p.m. Monday in response to a report that someone had been cut with a knife in a domestic battery.

Weber was a suspect and officers knew before they arrived that there was an active protective order on Weber, ordering him to have no contact with a woman who lived at the residence. That order was issued in connection with a prior case in which Weber was arrested on July 2 and subsequently charged with confinement, a Level 6 felony, intimidation, also a Level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. Weber was later released on bond and served with the order protecting the victim.

On Monday, when Marshal Tharp arrived on the scene along with Det. Shawn Cullison of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Det. Cullison headed for the front door and Tharp headed for the back.

Cullison knocked on the front door and when it opened and Weber saw the deputy, he allegedly ran through the house toward the back door. Cullison yelled, “He’s running,” and Tharp pulled his taser weapon as Weber ran from the garage area.

Tharp reported he yelled for Weber to stop but Weber did not and Tharp deployed the taser which hit Weber in the arm. Weber fell to the ground about eight feet from Tharp and after a physical struggle, was restrained by the two officers.

Other officers also arrived and Weber was transported to Greene County General Hospital by GCSD Deputy Harvey Holt for a medical clearance.

Tharp reported that when he talked to the alleged victim, she said Weber was her boyfriend and he had become irate with her over another man, had held a knife to her throat and was threatening her. She also said he had broken her phone. Tharp reported the woman had a small cut on a hand between her thumb and first finger and she had some redness around her neck.

Weber was booked in around 6:30 p.m. to the Greene County Jail where he was being held without bond pending a court appearance.

Weber is scheduled to be in Greene Superior Court tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, August 22, to be formally charged with:

  • Domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony,

  • Invasion of privacy – in violation of a protective order, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Interference with the reporting of a crime, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Resisting law enforcement – knowingly or intentionally forcibly resists, a Class A misdemeanor.

In addition, next Monday, August 26, he’s scheduled to be in court for a pre-trial conference in the other criminal case that is still pending against him.
