When a Bloomfield driver with a headlight out was stopped in Worthington last weekend, he ended up in jail for driving while his license was suspended.

Benjamin Cody Escobedo, 28, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Marshal Ryan Montgomery of the Worthington Police Department late last Saturday, May 15.

Around 10:15 p.m. last Saturday, Officer Montgomery stopped a gray 2013 Subaru passenger car on State Road 157 and William Street in Worthington. The headlight was out on the passenger side.

Escobedo was the driver. A records check revealed his driver’s license was suspended with an indefinite date of re-eligibility but Escobedo allegedly said he didn’t know his license was suspended.

After Escobedo was asked to get out of his vehicle then handcuffed for safety and asked again about the status of his license, he allegedly admitted that he did know his license was suspended with a prior conviction for driving while suspended.

Escobedo was transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 11:52 p.m. His bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $100 and was released.

Officer Montgomery said Escobedo was convicted last January in Orange County of driving while suspended.

Escobedo is facing a charge of driving while suspended – a knowing violation with a prior conviction within 10 years, a Class A misdemeanor. He’s scheduled to be in court in the morning for an initial hearing.
