Bloomfield man arrested after allegedly battering disabled family member
An 18-year-old Bloomfield man found himself behind bars on Christmas Eve after allegedly battering a disabled family member.
Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Devan Goad arrested William Dale Isenogle on a charge of domestic battery with bodily injury to a disabled person after allegedly battering a disabled family member on Dec. 24. Domestic battery with bodily injury to a disabled person is a Level 5 Felony.
A female presented at the Sheriff’s Department on Dec. 24 to report an alleged battery that had occurred at a Bloomfield residence. According to a probable cause affidavit written by Deputy Goad, the victim, who was with the reporting party, presented with a black eye and redness on her neck. The victim pointed to the left side of her face and said Isenogle hit her. She also alleged he broke her sunglasses. The victim said she told Isenogle to stop hitting her on both sides of her face and to stop choking her. She alleged she could not breathe while being choked. She also alleged he pushed her around the house and hit her in the back. The victim also had a spot on her knuckle, which she said was from Isenogle biting her. Deputy Goad noted it looked as if she had old and new bruising on her eye.
Deputy Goad and Deputy Caleb Sipes went to Isenogle’s residence in an attempt to speak with him about the incident. Instead, they spoke with the mother of Isenogle and the victim. Deputy Goad asked if she could bring Isenogle to the Sheriff’s Department to talk about the incident. She allegedly asked if it was concerning the black eye, stating Isenogle wasn’t responsible for that. According to the probable cause, she said the victim had gone to bed the previous night and was fine. She alleged the victim is mentally handicapped and cannot speak as to what happened. She told Deputy Goad she must have hit her eye on something the previous night.
Isenogle arrived at the Sheriff’s Department and agreed to speak with Deputy Goad. Before he could ask about the victim’s eye, per the probable cause, Isenogle began to tell what had happened between them. Isenogle said he noticed her eye swelling on Dec. 23 and asked the victim if he had hit her. He said she had been attacking him in the mornings and he didn’t know if he had accidentally hit her. He alleged the victim said he did not hit her. He said she had makeup on and the swelling must have been a reaction to that because he didn’t hit her. Per the probable cause, he said if he had hit her, his knuckles would have been bruised because the last time it happened, his knuckles were bruised for eight or nine days.
Deputy Goad informed Isenogle that his stories were not lining up as the victim stated he had hit and bit her. According to the probable cause affidavit, Isenogle changed his story and said the victim hit him in the genitalia. He alleged his instant reaction was to open hand smack her in the face, but said he was nowhere close to her eye. He said he held her arms so she couldn’t hit him and hollered for his mother for assistance. He alleged the victim attempted to bite his arm, so he bit her knuckle.
When asked if there was a chance it wasn’t a slap in the face but an actual punch, according to the probable cause, Isenogle shook his head. He allegedly said if the victim had angered him, he would have hit her. Deputy Goad asked Isenogle to tell him what happened, and according to the probable cause affidavit, he said, “I hit her, that’s what happened”. He alleged it was an open-hand hit, not a fist. He alleged he did not grab the victim by the neck, stating he knew better.
Deputy Goad followed up about the victim’s eye, stating it takes a lot of pressure for a bruise like the victim had. Isenogle alleged he knew how much pressure it took. According to the probable cause, he said, “I’ve done it before when she nailed me, and I’ve nailed a few friends.”
Isenogle was placed under arrest with his bond set at $10,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He was released after posting $1,000.
He is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on Jan. 11 for an initial hearing.
