A Bloomfield man is accused of pushing a woman down onto gravel while a child stood nearby yelling at him to stop. He was taken into custody Thursday afternoon on a preliminary charge of domestic battery as a Level 6 felony.

Matthew Gary Sinn, 26, of Bloomfield, was arrested following an investigation by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy David Elmore. A warrant for the arrest of Sinn issued Wednesday was served by GCSD Det. Shawn Cullison on Thursday.

Deputy Elmore responded after a woman called Greene County dispatch on Sunday to report an incident of domestic abuse she said occurred between her and her boyfriend, Sinn. Elmore made contact and met the woman at the home of a family member.

According to Elmore, the woman said an argument started around 11 p.m. Saturday and continued until around 2 a.m. Sunday when she decided to leave with her children. She said as she tried to load the kids in a van, Sinn tried to grab a child she was holding and left marks and scratches on her arms.

She told Elmore Sinn then pushed her to the ground and she fell on her right leg onto gravel. She said one child was outside of the van yelling for Sinn to stop. She told the deputy Sinn then reached into the van, took the key and her laptop and smashed the laptop.

When someone else came to the home, they gave the woman and the children a ride to another house to spend the night.

Deputy Elmore took photographs of the woman’s injuries.

Elmore also talked to one of the children who said he was standing by the van when Sinn pushed his mother down to the ground hurting her. He said he told Sinn to stop.

Elmore reported the woman wanted charges filed against Sinn saying she was tired of his drinking and wanted out of the relationship. She also told him about previous incidents.

Sinn was being held on a bond of $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of 6 p.m. Friday, he had not posted bond and was still in jail. When he appears in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing, he will be charged with domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years of age, a Level 6 felony.
