Bloomfield man accused of threatening an emergency room doctor

A Bloomfield man who was treated in the emergency room last week is accused of telling an emergency room physician that he was going to beat his face in.

A criminal case has been filed against Matthew Michael May, 50, Bloomfield, following an investigation by Officer Zachary Goad of the Linton Police Department.

At 11:05 p.m. last Tuesday, December 28, LPD Dispatch got a call from Greene County General Hospital about a man who was making threats toward hospital staff.

Officer Goad responded and talked to an ER doctor who said he was getting ready to discharge Matthew May but when he asked if May had phone numbers of people he could call to help him get home, May sat up on the edge of the bed and said, “I want you to come here so I can start beating your face in and beat the shit out of you.” The ER doctor called for hospital security.

When Deputy Goad talked to another hospital employee, they said they didn’t hear the original threat but they did hear May say, “I told him to get his a-- out of here because I was gonna beat him up, he’s nothing but a punk.”

Another employee said he did not hear threats but he did see May making hand gestures.

When Deputy Goad talked to May in the waiting room, May said he didn’t have a ride home and that he told the doctor several times that he didn’t have a ride home. According to May, he was told he needed to put his big boy pants on. May allegedly admitted that he did threaten the ER doctor, telling him he was going to get out of the bed and bust his head. May allegedly admitted he knew this was illegal.

May was not arrested that night but after Deputy Goad’s findings were submitted to the prosecutor’s office, a criminal was was filed yesterday.

May is facing a charge of intimidation, a Class A misdemeanor.
