Bloomfield man accused of stealing a set of keys

After a man and woman got into an argument, he left but she said he took her keys with him. Now he has a charge of theft pending against him.

Jacob Lee McGrail, 42, Bloomfield, is facing a preliminary charge of theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

McGrail was summoned to appear in court for an initial hearing set for April 9 but this week the hearing was rescheduled and pushed back to May 18.

This case dates back to mid-January when Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department was dispatched to a residence on Main Street in Bloomfield after a woman called to report a theft.

According to Officer Blazier, the woman said she had been in an argument at the residence with McGrail and she had asked him to leave. He did leave, but she alleged that as he was leaving, he grabbed her set of keys off the kitchen counter. It included the keys to her vehicle, her house key and her work keys.

Officer Blazier talked to two other people who were at the residence at the time. One said she saw McGrail take the keys and she completed a written statement. The other said he saw McGrail take the keys but he declined to complete a written statement.

When Officer Blazier later reached McGrail by phone, McGrail allegedly said he did not take the keys.

All this occurred on January 11. Officer Blazier reported that on February 12, he received a call from the woman who told him that a couple of weeks earlier, she found the stolen keys laying outside, near her door.

The charge was filed against McGrail earlier this month.
