A warrant was issued on Dec. 28 and served on Dec. 29 for a 29-year-old Bloomfield man for allegedly stealing items from Wal-Mart on two different dates.

A Wal-Mart Asset Protection employee went to the Linton Police Department to report the instances of theft on Dec. 6 and Dec. 12 by a subject later identified as Isaac James Chastain.

The Wal-Mart Asset Protection employee reported to Linton Police Department Officer Andrew Mifflin that Chastain was seen on Dec. 6 not scanning items at the self-checkouts and then leaving the store. He allegedly left the store without paying for a six-pack of Evian spring water and seven boxes of Liquid IV totaling $74.84.

The Asset Protection Employee told Mifflin that Chastain was observed in the store’s electronics department on Dec. 12 looking at cameras. He selected a Polaroid Now camera and went to the front of the store. When at the checkout, he allegedly told the checkout host he had paid for the camera at a different part of the store. The camera’s value was $119.

Later in the day on Dec. 12, Chastain went back to Wal-Mart to return a camera. He went to the service desk with a camera and receipt. A Nikon camera was returned; however, the receipt was for a Canon camera. A total of $640.93 was returned to Chastain. The difference in the receipt was not noticed until after the transaction was complete.

A warrant was issued on Dec. 28 and carried out on Dec. 29. He was taken to Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $5,000 surety with 10 percent cash allowed. He posted $500 and was released later the same day.

When he appears in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing on Jan. 9, he’ll be formally charged with theft, a Class A Misdemeanor and theft where the value of property is between $750 and $50,000, a Level 6 Felony.
