A Bloomfield man accused of domestic battery denied injuring the alleged victim but an officer reported she had a good-size black eye.

Blake Evan Byers, 31, Bloomfield, was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail at 3:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, on a warrant that was issued following an investigation by Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department.

On Sunday, May 2, a woman called Greene County Dispatch to report her boyfriend, Blake Byers, had battered her at their residence on South Seminary in Bloomfield. She said she was staying out of the area with family.

When Officer Blazier talked to her, the woman alleged the battery occurred on Thursday night, April 29, with a small child close by. She said the two had a disagreement and Byers was cussing and yelling. Evans allegedly pushed her down onto a couch then pushed his forehead against hers. When the woman was able to leave the house and ran out the door with the child, Evans allegedly told her to get back in the house, was coming toward her with something in his hands and was throwing things at her as she ran down the street. A family member picked her and the child up a couple of houses away.

Officer Blazier reported the woman had a good-size black eye and she was able to provide photos of her injuries. He also collected 47 screenshots of messages sent from Byers arguing with her, threatening to take their child, saying this is her fault and that he will cause problems.

When Byers was interviewed, Byers allegedly confirmed the situation had gotten out of hand but he said he did not hit the woman.

Bond for Byers was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $400 and was released from jail the same day as his arrest. He was given a court date.

Byers is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court next Monday afternoon for an initial hearing when he will be formally charged with domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony.
