When a Bloomfield man was in court this week, he was charged with strangulation and battery that caused physical injuries to a woman in an incident of domestic violence that occurred in late February.

Scott Douglas Stahl, 43, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Marshall Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department early Monday, February 22. Stahl was booked into the Greene County Jail at 3:16 a.m.

Officer Blazier was dispatched along with deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department to a residence in the Bloomfield area at 2:10 a.m. that Monday after a woman called 911 and said Stahl was beating her and another woman, who was her family member. She said Stahl was choking the other woman. Dispatch then notified officers that the woman who was choked was “puking” and that Stahl had left in a white Volkswagen.

Deputies were first to arrive, then Officer Blazier, the investigating officer. Officer Blazier talked to the woman who said she was sitting in her vehicle when Stahl got into the back seat behind her, put her in a choke hold and started choking her. She thought he was going to break her neck. At one point when she was out of the vehicle, Stahl allegedly threw her against a fence, grabbed her head and was punching her.

In a later interview, the caller said in her effort to try and stop the attack, she hit Stahl in the face and kicked him but Stahl knocked her to the ground. She said when she couldn’t pull Stahl away from the woman, she called police and while she was on the phone, she could hear the woman gurgling while trying to talk.

Officer Blazier reported the woman who was allegedly choked had a busted and bleeding lip and injuries to her face. After she received medical treatment, she had a cast on a wrist due to ligament issues and a broken thumb, plus a splint on another finger that was broken.

While Officer Blazier was still on the scene that night talking to the choking victim, other officers had located Stahl at another residence in Bloomfield. He was transported to the sheriff’s department. Officer Blazier attempted to interview Stahl but Stahl declined and said he wanted a lawyer. Officer Blazier noted Stahl had a bloody nose and looked like he had been hit.

Stahl was arrested. His bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He later posted $500 and was released from jail.

Charges were filed and Stahl appeared in Greene Superior Court on Monday for an initial hearing when he was formally charged with:

• Strangulation, a Level 6 felony,

• Domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony, and

• Domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
