A Bloomfield police officer has been investigating an alleged incident of child molesting since the fall of 2019. Evidence includes DNA evidence but the lab results didn’t come back until late 2020. The suspect was arrested last Friday.

David Eugene Biggerstaff, 40, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Terry Wade of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Friday, April 23, on a warrant that was issued for Biggerstaff’s arrest on Wednesday, April 21.

Biggerstaff was booked into the Greene County Jail at 6:15 p.m. His bond was set at $19,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $1,950 and was released later the same day.

Biggerstaff is scheduled to be in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing on Thursday morning when he will be formally charged with:

• Child molesting – fondling or touching with child under the age of 14, a Level 4 felony,

• Sexual battery – victim compelled to submit by force or imminent threat of force, a Level 6 felony, and

• Battery, a Class B misdemeanor.

Lt. Marvin Holt of the Bloomfield Police Department started an investigation back on October 13, 2019, into an alleged sex offense that had occurred at Biggerstaff’s residence in Bloomfield around 2 a.m. that morning. The alleged victim had been staying at the residence for a couple of days and was sleeping on a couch in the front room of the residence along with a friend, who was a child of Biggerstaff, when the incident occurred.

Lt. Holt conducted numerous interviews, with the alleged victim and the victim’s parents, as well as others who were in the residence at the time of the incident, and Biggerstaff. Lt. Holt obtained the clothing that was worn by the alleged victim during the incident and Biggerstaff was asked to provide a DNA sample.

It was not until late 2020 when Lt. Holt received the lab results back from the Indiana State Police Lab in Indianapolis. Results showed a very strong indication that Biggerstaff’s DNA was in the crotch area of the victim’s pants.
