A Bloomfield driver stopped for speeding south of Bloomfield early this morning was arrested and is facing charges of reckless driving and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Zachariah Adam Query, 27, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Davis Aerne of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early this morning, Friday, December 4.

Deputy Aerne was monitoring traffic, sitting at a location on US 231 south of Bloomfield around 12:30 a.m. this morning when a northbound vehicle approached. Deputy Aerne activated his radar and reported the vehicle was traveling at 106 mph in a 55 mph zone.

After the vehicle turned onto Furnace Road, a traffic stop was initiated.

Query was identified as the driver. Deputy Aerne said he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle and Query had slurred speech and difficulty getting his license out of his wallet. When asked how much he’d had to drink, Query allegedly said a few beers.

When Sgt. Bobby Pierce arrived to assist, standard field sobriety tests were conducted – Query reportedly failed.

Query was taken into custody but allegedly was uncooperative and kept trying to pull away from the deputies and a stun was administered to gain compliance.

Query did not give consent for a blood draw but one was obtained after a search warrant was approved.

Prior to Query’s vehicle being towed, during the required vehicle inventory, Deputies Jordan Allor and Michael Stanley reported finding a metal smoking device with the odor of burnt marijuana inside the vehicle.

Deputy Aerne noted that Query has a previous conviction for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Query was booked into the Greene County Jail at 2:15 a.m. His bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. Query has since posted bond and been released.

When Query appears in court for an initial hearing – date not yet known, he will be formally charged with:

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, with a prior, a Level 6 felony,

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction with seven years, a Level 6 felony,

• Reckless driving at unreasonable speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor, and

• Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
