Bloomfield driver accused of operating a vehicle with BAC of .18
An officer who pulled a car over for failure to stop at a stop sign in Bloomfield reported the driver had to lean on his car to maintain his balance. The driver, accused of operating a vehicle with a BAC of .18, is scheduled to be in court this morning, Thursday.
Cody Michael Caron, 25, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department on Friday evening, July 27.
Caron was driving a gray 2017 Ford Focus westbound on Indiana Avenue.
Blazier was on patrol and reported the car ran a stop sign at North Franklin Street. When the lights were activated, the car didn’t stop immediately but pulled over at the intersection of Indiana Avenue and North Jefferson Street.
Blazier said he smelled the odor of alcohol when talking to Caron, who said he had been at a friend’s house and he just had a beer. Then he said it was two beers.
Blazier’s report says when Caron was asked to step out of the car, he had to lean on the car in order to maintain his balance.
Caron reportedly failed field sobriety tests then registered .18 on a portable breath test.
He agreed to take a chemical test and was transported to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department where he failed another round of field sobriety tests.
Caron was given a certified chemical test with a result reported to be a blood-alcohol concentration of .18. The legal limit is .08.
Caron was placed under arrest and booked in. His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $400 cash, was released the next day and given a court date.
Caron is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court early Thursday, August 9 for his initial hearing to be charged with:
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and
- Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
