Angry man threatened to kill several people then hid under a bed

An angry man who threatened to kill several individuals at a rural Bloomfield residence last Saturday night was found hiding under a bed when two deputies and a trooper arrived on the scene.

Matthew Jordan Young

Matthew Jordan Young, 25, was arrested by Deputy Alan Jackson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Saturday night, April 3. Court records show Young without a home address but jail records show he has a home address in Mount Vernon, Ky.

Young was initially held on a bond of $18,000 cash only but after charges were filed, his bond was adjusted to $8,000 and he has since posted a surety bond and been released from jail.

Last Saturday night, Deputy Jackson was dispatched to a residence on East Mineral-Koleen Road in rural Bloomfield where Young was reported to have said he was going to kill everyone at the residence.

Deputy Michael Coy and Indiana State Police Trooper Waggoner also responded to assist.

After Deputy Jackson arrived, a woman at the residence was able to retrieve a Ruger 9 mm handgun from her bedroom and she handed the gun over to the deputy who unloaded it.

Deputy Jackson then located Young hiding under the bed. When he came out from under the bed, he was handcuffed. Young allegedly said he didn’t threaten anybody but had raised his voice because someone had taken his shotgun.

According to the deputies, Young exhibited signs of intoxication on the scene and allegedly admitted to Deputy Coy that he’d had about 10 beers. Young also asked repeatedly if this was going to have an effect on him getting a gun permit.

One of the other individuals at the residence said someone had taken the shotgun from the residence due to Young’s alcohol consumption habits and they thought it would be safer for both Young and the other people at the residence.

During interviews, Deputy Jackson learned Young had been angry over the shotgun and allegedly threatened one person by holding his pocket knife to her throat, then he allegedly said if he did not get his shotgun back he would kill everyone at the residence before killing himself. Young allegedly said if police arrived, he would have a shoot out with them and at one point when he was outside the residence, he was yelling his threat to kill everyone.

Young was transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in before midnight.

Young is currently scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing next Monday, April 12. He is facing two counts of intimidation where the threat is to commit a forcible felony. Both counts are Level 6 felonies.
