A man accused of shoplifting a blue bath robe, matching blue sleep pants, MASH DVDs and a bottle of Caliber vodka is being summoned to court on a preliminary charge of theft.

Dustin Covey, 35, of Lyons, is facing preliminary charges of theft, a Class A misdemeanor, and criminal trespassing, also a Class A misdemeanor.

Covey has been sent a summons, ordering him to appear in Greene Superior Court on February 4.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred at the Walmart store in Linton before the holidays.

Officer Debbie McDonald was dispatched to the store on Wednesday, December 19, about a man who had previously been warned on March 9, 2015, to not trespass onto Walmart property.

When McDonald arrived, an asset protection officer told her the suspect in his office was very cooperative but had taken a men’s blue bath robe, matching men’s blue sleep pants, a set of MASH DVDs and a bottle of Caliber vodka with a total retail value of $113.77.

When he was interviewed, Covey allegedly admitted he went to Walmart, took the items, tucked everything under his arm and walked out the doors on the pharmacy side without paying for the items.

He knew he had been previously advised to not trespass at the store and said he had contacted Walmart through their website to ask to be allowed back in the store but he hadn’t heard back from them yet.
