Two women arrested by LPD and facing drug charges
A traffic stop on Aug. 25 for operating a vehicle without license plate lights resulted in the arrest of two for various charges, including possession of methamphetamine.
Tamara Renae Smith, 54, of Sullivan, was arrested on a preliminary felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and preliminary misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Brandy Anne Pattison, 49, of Linton, was arrested on a preliminary felony charge of possession of marijuana.
Officer Janzen Franklin of the Linton Police Department initiated the traffic stop and when asking for insurance for the vehicle, Smith said she had none. Officer Franklin asked both Smith and Pattison to get out of the vehicle as it was to be towed due to not being insured.
When exiting the vehicle, both women attempted to take their purses with them. Franklin instructed them to leave the purses in the vehicle, otherwise they would have to be searched for weapons for officer safety. Smith admitted she had a knife in the bottom of her purse.
Officer Cayden Walker of the Linton Police Department searched Smith’s bag and located: a black, green, yellow, and red marijuana grinding device; a white crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine; a silver set of scales; and a clear and black container containing a brown wax marijuana residue. Smith later admitted she had approximately two grams of methamphetamine in her bra.
During a weapons search of Pattison’s purse, a small plastic baggie containing a white crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine was located in her wallet.
Pattison said she went to a friend of Smith’s house to play games and someone put the methamphetamine in her wallet.
When Smith was transported to jail, members of the jail staff located a clear plastic bag containing a green plant-like material in one of her pockets. Through Franklin’s experience and training, he believed the material to be marijuana. Two pills were also located. According to the markings on the pills, using drugs.com, Franklin believed the pills to be Diazepam, a controlled substance.
Smith was preliminary charged with

After her arrest, Smith was held without bond in Greene County Jail until her initial hearing in Greene Superior Court. She appeared in court on Aug. 29 where her bond was set at $50,000 in full with no 10 percent allowed.
