Lysle Pittman

On Sunday morning, August 26, at 7:55am, Lysle died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. Lysle dedicated his life to serving others. Loving and generous with all he had, he cared most for the well being of children both physically and spiritually.

A humanitarian, Lysle dedicated his life to serving others. He worked as a minister since 1956 and served as Greene County Welfare Director for 25 years. He loved to listen to live Gospel music played on the fiddle, banjo and guitar. Lysle was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Lysle was born on October 29, 1932 to Arlin and Edith (Clawson) Pittman. He is survived by his sister Kathy (Pittman) Hunt and Ronnie Pittman. Preceded in death are brothers Arlin Pittman and Larry Pittman and sister Eldonna Pittman Dickerson.

Lysle and Patricia Harstine Pittman were married on December 18, 1955. He is survived by his wife, Patricia and their four children, Jeff (Shelly) Pittman, Vicky (Michael) Pittman, Teresa (Eric) Bass, Maria (Rich) Machin, 7 grandchildren, Skyler (Emily) Pittman, Ryan Pittman, Stephen (Alexis) Gregg, Amanda (Seth) Hughes, Brianna Pittman, Alex and Owen Machin, and 6 great grandchildren, Calleigh, Caragh, Kamryn, Madelynn, Meredith and Charlie.

Lysle was ordained into the ministry in 1956 at Lebanon Baptist Church in Midland, Indiana, he served many churchs over the years including Dugger First Baptist, Mt. Gilead in Shelbyville, First Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Switz City Baptist Church, Jefferson Baptist Church in Coal City and he interned at many other churches.

Graveside services with friends and family will be at 2:00p.m. on Friday August 31 at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the Walnut Grove Community Building, friends may fellowship from 5 to 6:45 P.M. on Friday, food will be served during the fellowship time.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes all donations be made to a youth program at a church of your choice in Lysle’s name.
